Default dog runs off!

He has only done this a few times but when its a deer he's gone! I only use him for flushing, treeing and retrieving squirrels. Normally he won't go more that 50 yards in front of me. I was thinking of using the e-coller but don't really know the proper way to use it in this situation? Any ideas?

YES,go after him right away and say NO loudly.only dog i had trouble breaking is beagle, they are hard.never ever needed collar to sting a dog.take dog right home and make like you are mad.NEXT TRIP TRY TO FIND A DEER AND USE THE no BEFORE HE GOES OFF AFTER DEER.
any dog other than beagle is not hard to break.
