This is going to sound really wierd, but my vet told me to wash the blasted mutt down with Scope mouthwash. Gave the beast a bath, and poured a couple of bottles all over him. Turned him a sickly green color, but the stink was gone. Lasted for two days, then it rained. Back to square one.
What made the whole episode so funny is the fact that the dog is a Samoyed. Pure white. Looking at a green Sammy is enough to reduce you to a lump of hysterical laughter.

I have heard of similar mixtures, adding douche powder, or tomato juice. There is also some stuff, I think it is call skunk off, or something very similar.

I make my own and carry the supplies

1 qt of Hydrogen peroxide
1 TSP of Baking soda
2 Dash of Dawn dish soap

Must use - you can not save it or premix ahead of time.

Mix all ingredients in a can a lather dog.
then rinse dog off by either swimming or with a hose.

And it is gone.

I usually follow up with a Fresh Scent Hartz Mnt shampoo.

In my dog kit I always have Hydrogen peroxide so a small box of baking soda was no problem.
And I always have dish soap in the truck.

Works greats

my family uses "FDS" feminine spray. I haven't personally used it but they swear by it.

I have the potion that JW listed out. Worked great with me. The vet did tell me to be carefull around the eyes, nose, mouth area. Don't spray it directly on those areas but use a towel to wipe it on and off.

I saw a recent Mythbusters episode and in their opinion/experience the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda/dish soap worked the best..

they also tried the FDS and a few others

JW!'s recipe that was shown is a common one shown across many trapping sites. I have it too and luckily, haven't had to use it in some time. LOL! Never heard the one about using it right away, don't store it, but that sounds good to me. Good tip!

I also had a trap that took a skunk. Needless to say, the trap stunk! I got some tomato juice and soaked the trap in that. Something about the acid in it I guess.

It worked.

G'day
