im going to have to agree with chessie as well. it sound like you are looking for protection first hunting second. chessies have been used for both but i think it might be hard to suite both those need well at the same time.

My one year oldwirehaired pointing griffon is a playful clownish dog with lots of personality. Mostly an inside dog, but loves to go ouside and play, walkor train.
Although not particularly aggressive hewill alert you to anything ouside.
He is not afraid to be protective of his people, and is the first one to the door if someone is there.
The breed is great for all sorts of hunting.
Our seven year old female dobie, has one mean looking "scary dog face" and growlthat would scare away most people.
But she is not mean.
She won't point or fetch anything.
