Snake Dog
This is more humourous than anything else.
Years ago we found a Wiemer at the local dump abandoned. We took her home and named her Gretchen. German name and all that. Well she had the worst habit of getting on the bed. Mouse traps wouldnt work. She would just set them all off and go on about her thing.
Anyway we wanted to see if she had had any training. My dad was big into dog hunting small game so we took her to the family homestead to check her out. Well a few minutes after getting out of the truck she busts a perfect point towards the spring/swimming hole. Into the brush we go. No quail, water mocasin. Well atleast she weren't gun shy.
We decided to try the otherside of the 2 rut trail as it was alittle higher ground. 'Bout 10 minutes and BAM, perfect point again. Nice clump of bushes ahead and we ease up on it. Same deal. No birds just another moc.
Ok enough of this we say, lets take her away from the water to a more dry area of the property. Well it took about 30 minutes this time but guess what. Yep same scenario only this time an Eastern Diamondback. That wrapped it up. On the way back to the truck we jumped up some quail she didn't even notice. That dang sure clinched things.
All in all old Gretchen was a pretty good dog even if she was head strong, but you sure had to be careful of where you stepped when she pointed.
