Ivermectrin is the active ingredient in every known form of heart-worm preventative that is on the market. For Dogs, Horses, Catle, Hogs, Birds or anything else.
2 Vets can't agreeon where to eat lunch. Much less can they agree on anything. Vets these days are like salesman. so many clinics so little clients.
If you can posibbly be dumb and mess up and give a dog a whole 3 cc suringe full of ivermic. It will not killthe dog. Even if it is 10lbs
Ivermic has been used or (tried as a pregrancy terminator before) In most cases it will not evenharm unborn pups.
Along time ago people would not even train a hunting dog till it was 2 years old. This came from the days when there was no worm treatment. If a Bird Dog was to survive past 2 years old it would more than likle live for a few years.
MYTH BUSTED ON TRAINING YOUNG DOGS
In the Mid Centry worm preventativestarted with hard corechemicals.
Thank God Today we have things that are safe to use
Don't be afraid to give shots. You are only duplicating what many people before have done.
It is not like you have to Invent Something New

Interceptor or HeartGuard Plus are fine and have been on the market for years they are effective and easy to take along on road trips, especially if you are crossing the border.
When you take pup with you, check out the area before you let him do his business. If it looks like every dog on the road has used that areayou probably should take him to another spot.
Keeping stool picked up on your property will also help keep parasite infestations low.

Daleh - Where the problem is you have one for swine and one for cattle. And yes one will kill dogs and one won't!!! Read the labels. Most people don't know this and that is were they get into problems. Far as the hole vet thing goes, I was just posting what happend.

I heard a vet say that the only difference between swine and cattle, was the it was diluted more in the swine and easy to get the doseage correct for smaller animals.

This is alot of good information will a moderator sticky this ?

Ok, I just got done going out to the barn to see which cattle wormer we have, that says it will kill dogs. It's Ivomec not Ivermectrin, I WAS WRONG. But that does go to show how easy it is to mix the two up.

Ivermectrin is the active ingrediant in all heart-wormers.
Which one kills Dogs?
My bottle says for cattle and swine 1% sterile injectable solution. Although i don't inject the dogs with it. they get .5 cc on there feed.

I sad I was wrong about the Ivermectrin. But, I'm NOT wrong about Ivomec as it say's right on the label it will kill K-9's! Ivermectrin IS NOT the only active ingrediant in Ivomec.

I worm similar to daleh, but be VERY careful w/ Ivermectin (Ivomec). It can and will cause liver damage if given to much and I've seen quite a few dogs die from it. The rule of thumb for Ivomec is 1/10 cc for every 10 lbs. of dog. I have over a dozen beagles and a few yellow/black labs and for a 22 lb. beagle, I give 0.22 cc. Hope this helps. Ivo is mainly used for heartworms and you need a heartworm test prior to giving. If your dog has them, Ivo can cause them to dislodge in the heart and lungs and kill the dog. Ivo is a no no for collies and herding dogs.

I use Canine Allwormer every 3 months, and Safeguard liquid every 2 mo. alternating between the last 2. I also use Nemex 2 & Dworm for puppies and pregnant females. If you have any questions or doubts, just ask, it's MUCH better to be safe than sorry and I've been doing this a long time.

You are either full of it or a complete idiot. i have never seen a dog die from Ivomec or any other de-wormer for that matter=============
