RE: ******* snake!
i have been lucky, i guess, in 45 years hunting rabbits/grouse/pheasants i never came accross a rattler here in pa.
this year was warm the first week of grouse.
i did not hunt my black lab as i felt snakes were still out.
another thing we do is hunt early in morning in warm weather, snakes dont like cool nights and will come out when it warms up in afternoon.
sorry to see your dog like that.
worst mine has had is 40 porcupine quills in mouth and inside his nose.

Two of my dogs got bitten by aDiamondback on Sunday night in our yard...the same snake my husband nearly stepped on in the dark two nights before, and he still hasn't been caught. My Bloodhound has to have surgery this morning to remove part of her lipbecause it has turned necrotic, and she has a hole through her cheek.
Does anyone know if there is any kind of snakeproof vest made for dogs to protect their heart from a bite? Luckily (?) they both took it on the nose, and I am worried about them running over a snake while working. Does anyone have any surefire tips for creating a snakeproof enclosure for them?

Sorry to here about your luck with the snakes again Cara, I hope you have them under control now! I am also glad your dogs have came out of it OK.
I am not sure about snakes as we do not have them up here to worry about as a rule, but those porcupines are something else. A dog will run to one everytime they see one if not hit with the shock collar. Something about the way they waddle or something makes them look good to a dog. I like to just keep the shock collar ready when ever we come across one of those.

i never saw that type of snake coil up like cobra and nailed him in throat.
those porcupine quills are nasty.
i found a way to get them out without going to vet.
have someone put a towel over your dogs eyes then take a RAWHIDE SHOELACE and tie his mouth shut.
most of quills are usually on outside ,not on tongue.
bad ones are deep inside their nose.
PGC released FISHERS which kill the porcupines.
