Default LAB

I have a lab that loves the water and loves to play ball. However, when i shoot a dick he will go to the duck with my assistance, sniff it and continue to play. The other problem is that he does very well with obedience however every once in a while he will be in my field. I will whistle and call him, he will look at me and keep going. The other thing is he gets out of his pen at least 30 mins a day. i have let him out for hours and he literly runs and runs and never settles down. please help!!1

Thanks,
john

Is this the first hunting dog that you have trained?
How old is your lab?
What training program are you following?
If your dog is over 6 months old, has he been Force Fetched?
Are you using or planning to use an e-collar?
Does he escape from his pen or do you mean that you have him out of his pen for 30 minutes a day?
Do you train with bumpers? - frozen birds? - fresh birds? - have you introduced him to wing clipped pigeons?

I don't know where to start. My lab is out of his pen and we are working on sitting, staying, retrieving. He will listen to me once he runs around crazy for a min. However sometimes when i say come, he turns and runs towards me then turns around and runs away. This is the first dog i have trained and he is 3 yrs old. THe only thing i want him to do is retrieve. I am not following and specific training program.

There are some dog clubs with members that are willing to help. The Hunting Retriever Club is a great resource.
