My New Puppy

Well theres Maggie. She is a 7 week old black lab. I'll post the pedigree later.

When should I start retreiving training? I'll be taking her hunting probably next year.

EDIT: How do I make the picture smaller?

You need to get a program to resize it. Windows viewer should do this. There is also a good program called Irfan thats free that should do it. http://www.irfanview.com/

Hoipe this helps.

Start your training now.For retrieving I like to start in a hallway.Roll a tennis ball down the hall and while shes going for it take a few steps towards her. This helps her get used to understanding to bring what shes fetching right to you.

Not sure where you live but if water work is part of your plans in training, before the water gets to cold get her in some shallow water in a stream or lake to let her have some fun.Remeber shes just a pup so all training lessons should be made short.10 to 20 min once or twice a day is better then trying to hold a puppies intrest for a hr at a time.Good luck with your pup,its a ton of fun watching them grow and very rewarding watching them mature as a gundog due to the time and training you invest in them.Take care,Paul..

Thanks. With my first lab we got a book called Water Dog by Richard Wolters.

My 9 year old lab is gun shy. Even my airsoftrpistol. Can I train my lab to not be gun shy? I dont have any guns except my airsoft. My friend has a shotgun, if that helps.
