Your pup is very young so your a long ways from having to worry about gunfire at this point.1 important thing to remember is.Gunshyness is a man made fault, its not a genitic fault in any dog. Some dogs are timid of course but until they are improperly introduced to gunfire,NONE are gunshy.

I get my dogs super excited on live birds.I take and pull the flight feathers off a quail or use a bird harness so the bird cant escape, then I take the pup on a checkcord to the bird and let it get excited as possible.Repetion of this is my way to build dogs desire and get them prepared for introduction to the gun. Some folks use banging of pots and pans while dogs eats, some take dogs to the trap range or rifle range. These methods have worked for some and have failed for others.Thats why I'd rather use 'birds' for a birddog.Let them learn and understand its the 'scent' from those live birds that peaks their intrest and builds their desire.Take care,Paul..

I would not use the airgun for now. There's something about airguns other people have had bad experiences with even on non-gunshy dogs.

Get a toy cap-gun. They are cheap and you can buy them at any toy store. Then eventually, you'll want to upgrade to .22 blanks. One thing about introducing the gun is that it is an important part of training. Some find it simple some hard to do. It all depends upon the temperment of the dog. I've introduced guns to three dogs now. First two was quick but this last dog was somewhat shy in some ways, so, it took longer. With all three dogs I used three different methods.

Just read up on your book and follow the method your book recommends.
