Default Cutting Trails......

Bow season just opened here, yes!!! (no time until now) Would you start cutting trails and clearing out now? I've been told that deer are curious and would not be bothered to much. But, I mean its pretty thick and needs thinning out for any kind of hunt but knife.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> particularly around the hot trails for ground blinds think they would shy away after completion? And, later in black powder maybe putting a small permanent stand.

DO YOU HUNT ALL WEEKEND OR JUST 1 DAY A WEEK OR WHAT.IF YOU ONLY HUNT ON THE WEEKENDS, THAN CUT AND CLEAR ON SUNDAY BEFOR YOU LEAVE. THIS WILL GIVE THE DEER TIME TO GET USED TO IT.

Hurry up and wait.

I've been once and no plans till I cut back the brush and thickets. Planning on tomorrow evening and Friday evening. Drop a salt block, small ground blind, go back in about week when I get back in town. Hopefully by then they will go back to their original trails.
Its was a large pond in this area 20yrs ago, but now, all grown up, drained and about 70yds from a beaver swamp line 2 mi. long.
Maybe I'll get lucky.

As Bruce said, go ahead and cut the trails! I have heard that deer will avoid an area like this for a couple of weeks, but I have not found that to be true. I once did a lot of cutting and set up a lean-to stand one summer day, it was so hot you could not help but leave a lots of human scent in the area. I decided to sit on the stand that evening, just to see what came around. The deer came around! It did not seem to bother them one bit. If there are farms around or logging operations, the deer won't be bothered by the work. In fact, as soon as the loggers leave for the day, the deer will come out and feed! Good luck!
