Default NC Public Lands Hunting

Anyone have info on which NC Public Lands have the best hunting? I am near Charlotte so the closer the better. Thanks.

Sorry, I can't help there. I rarely hunt them.

I have afriend that has good results taking a boat into places on public that is too far for hunters to walk to.

Hawgnman makes a good point. My wife and I have a couple of honey holes on Gamelands and we never see another person. Last year she took a 140 class 8 point which I rattled in for her. We came in by boat. Most hunters are to lazy to get very far off the road. The smaller pieces of land that are remote are the best. There is a ton off the Yadkin river. Get a topo map and some hip boots and explore. There are some nice pieces up around coolemee area.

I just spent 3 hours studing the state. I have relatives in Surray County. In summary the best area is any area near the main rivers especially near Roanoke and the areas near agricultural land. The experts tell us to stay away from the national forest in the mountains and hid toward the river. The best public area was a place called Castilla and Mitchell River.
