Man, I hope it is not canceled! I have been practicing this summer and this will be my first black powder attempt.
Like 02bhuntin said, they threatened the same thing last year. It was about the same last year, but they let the season go ahead any way. There were some special signs at the WMA parking lots though about being careful about shot, burning wads and that outdoor fires were prohibited.

VaHuntr the Governor does't call the shots on that one, I beleive the foresty and VDIGF folks determine whether it will be delayed or closed.

Taz,
I do remember about 4 or 5 years ago the Gov. did stop hunting season about mid-way through after it had been so dry. After a major outcry it was re-opened about 4 days later, I don't remember who Gov was at the time, It may have been Wilder or whom ever was next in office.

thanx everyone for the info,,,i sure hope we get the rain needed to keep the season goin as the only land i have to hunt is the GW natl forest in front royal. i love the land there & i have real high hopes for the place this year as it was logged in 5 & 10 acre plots for game management 3 yrs ago,,,,the deer are really concentrating on the browse in those areas

I'm pretty sure Wilder was going to cancel the BP season if rain did'nt come. Seems like a week or so of rain, and hunters raising cane,he went ahead and opened it up.

Correct guys it was Wilder back in 93 or 94. They actually annouced that it would be closed but a light rain two nights before the actual date caused them to resend. Unfortunatly this year is much drier than a decade ago. It's not just the BP hunters that are of concern but the number of folks in the forrest that bring trouble. We'll see
