Texas boys and gals, where you at?

Just doing a quick roll call on all the Texas folks in here. Where in Texas do you live and tell a little bit about yourself.

I live about and hour North of Houston about 10 miles West of Conroe. To be exact, I live 5 minutes South of Lake Conroe off of the beaten path. I live on 13 acres of thick wooded oak and mostly pines and enjoy watching the deer in the evening. Other than white-tail hunting, I love to fish the upper bay systems of the Texas Gulf Coast for speckled trout, redfish and flounder. Other than that you can catch me at the house enjoying family time with my two boys (ages 8 and 22 months)and with my beautiful wife. We built a house on this acreage about 2 1/2 years ago and we've had our work cut out for us. We built our house right smack dab in the middle of the thick briar pathces and pines on our property. My wife and I have been doing alot of clearing and burning over the past two years and it is starting to pay off. Our bermuda grass that we threw out is coming up nicely and I can actually run my push lawnmower over the ground without it getting slammed by a root.lol So what's your story?

RE: Texas boys and gals, where you at?

Hi Johnny, I went to the Renaissance Festival a few years ago that must be close to your house. Pretty country.
I live just west of McKinney, about 40 mi north of Dallas and I celebrate each day that I can stay out of that city. We bought our house in December of 2000 and are waiting for the nest egg to grow and our home value to go up so that hopefully one day we can sell and build a house on my father-in-law's land near Gatesville. (Coryell Co, about 30 mi SW of Waco) I'm an hour from Lake Fork and have several other lakes around but I don't have a boat, so I bank fish or catch a ride with a buddy occasionally. I've got decent Type II dove land in Gainesville, which is about an hour northwest of me, and good deer hunting at the in-laws place which borders Ft. Hood and is about 3 hours south of here. I'm 35 and proud to say that my family's roots run back to the Republic of Texas. I was born in Austin and all of my people are still around there, but a job brought me here and three jobs later, I'm still around. I've got an awesome wife who understands my hunting and fishing itch and lets me scratch it, and a three year old daughter who is my world. Life is pretty good, but I'd rather be in a house with a big porch in the hills of Coryell Co. watching the cows and counting the deer. Someday!

Well Johnny it's been along time since you and I have graced the Southern forum with our presence. That was way back when these boards were new and this forum was for all things Southern, not just hunting topics......I get misty eyed thinking about it.lol

I'm from Nacogdoches County in Deep East Texas. We are about 2 hrs north of Houston, 3 hrs south of Dallas and less than 45 minutes from the Louisiana border. Nacogodches Co. sits in Piney Woods and has some great hunting and fishing. We have all kinds of great lakes around here and tons of hunting. Our woods, like most all of East Tx, are THICK with underbrsh and fairly hard to hunt. Whitetails are what makes my clock tick. I'm hunting for a big one but I can't seem to get him. I know he's in our it even harder to catch a big buck in the rbottom, to be honest there is more than one, but still no luck. They go nocturnal very fast after gun season opens in our area and that makes it even harder to get one in the right place at the right time. For the last 3 yrs I have hunted exclusivly with my bow. Not because I'm an "elitist", but because I want to kill one with the thing.lol My other passion besides hunting would be catfishing. Boy I do love to catch a good mess of catfish on a summer evening.

I guess thats about all from me. Lets hear it from you other Texans, I know there has to be a few more of us around.

RE: Texas boys and gals, where you at?

texastracker, you sure live in some beautiful country. I think I told you this before but my wife and I had our honeymoon in Wimberly over 2 years ago in the Spring time. We stayed in a cottage right on the Blanco river way back off of some crushed limestone road. We would sit on the back porch in the evenings and my ears would start ringing because it was so quiet. One thing that I found odd was that almost everone in the area owned a peacock?? Do they use those things for watch dogs or what? Yep, I see that y'all have been getting a serious soaking over the past few days and today it is repeating itself. I also see that y'all are under a flash flood warning. Are y'all holding up alright?
You need to watch out for this Bruce guy. I hear he is one of those drafter/designer fellas and we know what they say about them.

Blue Bell, I grew up fishing Port 'O Conner. What stretch of water in POC do you fish? My family has been fishing the same stretch of water for over 40 years. I don't know how long you have been fishing POC but do you remember the old restaurant 'Strikers'? Oh the memories.

If you want, I'll give you our honey holes if you want. Let me know.

RE: Texas boys and gals, where you at?

Txbowhntr here!

I live in Dallas and am a Director of Sales Development for a financial services company. I've been married to a wonderful woman for 9.5 years and have two kids, a boy 6.5 and a daughter that's 2.

I've hunted since I was 8 and I'm now 35! I was a rifle hunter until 3 years ago when I picked up the bow. I love the up close in your face action of bowhunting! I've done some PR work and corporate fund raising for the Lone Star Bowhunters Association and have recently gotten heavily involved with the TPW regarding youth hunting.

I just got on a new lease in Navarro county that I'm really excited about. 1780 acres that has been properly managed for 7 years. In fact the owner was awarded the Lone Star from TPW last year for wildlife habitat improvement and big game management.

I'm new to the board and look forward to meeting ya'll.
Txbowhntr!

Howdy fellow Texans. I'm kinda new to this forum and this is my first time to the "South" part of it. I'm 29, single, no kids (just a dog). I'm in charge of a radiation unit at an extrusion plant and live in Wichita Falls Tx. I hunt whitetail in Clay co. and mule deer in Cottle co. I also put in for Hagerman every year, I'm sure you have all seen the new state record that was arrowed there this past year. I like all kinds of hunting, fishing and I also shoot alot of 3-D archery. Anyway, just thought I'd let all ya'll know a little about myself and I look forward talking with all of you in here.

Well, Howdy guys! Fairly new here, I've been lurking alot. 36, married to my best friend 11 yrs. She loves to hunt and fish also and is a helluva shot. Daughter 9 going on 18, son nearly 5. We live south of San Antone where our ranch is in Atascosa Co. We have horses and cattle on our place and lease out the hunting to several friends. We hunt on her family's ranch which is next door. We've got a place in Port A where we go hang out and fish and drink Dos XX. Be good to meet some of you hombres. I've never bowhunted and got to have a scope on my rifle so the deer take me serious. I'm also one of those dastardly real estate agents that love to make money off the rich. Too bad I don't know any rich people. LOL

Hi guys! Its been a long time since I've been to the Southern forum! I see there many new members on board here! Welcome to the boards guys!
I'm Frank, I bought a new Martin Jaguar Magnum a while back and loved it so much that I changed my name to JagMagMan!
I live in Port Neches, a small town south of Beaumont in the southeastern corner of our great nation, Texas!
I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 26 years now and have 2 girls, 24, and 17.
I am currently hunting west of Woodville, in SE texas, but after this season my group will be heading west to the Hill Country.
I eat, sleep and breathe whitetail deer hunting! I live close to Sabine Lake, which is home to some great Flounder, Speck and Red fishing. The fishing is fun, but to me doesn't even come close to being in the woods hunting!
Good luck to all, this comming season!
Frank

Frank,
Have gun, will travel.

I was born and raised in a little town in Southeast Texas called Fred. It is about 45 miles north of Beaumont up in Tyler County. Got transplanted by the Air Force here and there but now I am finally back close to home even though it is in Louisiana. At least the folks here understand me when I talk. You should have seen them Kalifornians when I had to go out there. Sheesh. I have 3 youngins, all girls. The oldest wants to start hunting but unfortunately lives with her mom and she is kinda funny about letting her hunt. Maybe she will decide to move in with us soon and I will let her hunt and fish all she wants. Well, as long as she doesn't do the same thing hunting as she does fishing. That kid skunks me everytime. She takes after her Grandma, rest her soul. Well enough blabbing from me, I will be headed back across the border this weekend I guess. Y'all take care.

RE: Texas boys and gals, where you at?

No, we didn't get hit as hard as others. Our rain was spread out over several days instead of all at once. Our creeks were up and they closed some roads, but it wasn't bad. It has been raining here off and on the last two days. One of my hunters has (had?) a ground blind about 50 yards from a creek that runs thru our place. He may have a tree blind now. LOL I haven't been able to get over there yet to see. It'll be interesting to see how this will affect the horns. We had NO rain from April-June, which is our critical time.

2arrowsshortaquivrfull, that's ex-wife. The current one likes the idea of the kids hunting and fishing. She lets me buy toys too.

While I am here, any of you good folks know the 411 on the Texas hunter's safety courses these days. I need to get the girl in a class but I have no idea where they teach them, when or how much. I lucked out and got it in school.
