I deer hunted in Barbour County just north of Clayton for about 15 years. Excellent deer hunting, very high population with some nice bucks harvested every year. The three best bucks I have harvested came from that area.

Excellent deer county....but, you should know, the black belt in Alabama is not what it use to be. Over population to over hunting has changed this region considerably. Still quite good though.

Sir, you have me at a lose. I do not know what the "black belt" is or means, but thanks for the information.
How about, "turkeys" in this area? I had the good fortune to hunt in Alabama last year on some private land near a small town called Hurtsbourogh. Turkeys were all over the place. It was amazing, comparing it to what I see way down here in extreme southern Florida.

The Black Belt is an area of the state running roughly across the central part of the state east to west, some of the better hunting area.
Dang turkeys are a pain in our area, too many of them.

Thanks for the information. Plan on giving the deer hunting a try this year. I've never done it before but while I have been turkey hunting the last two years I've seen deer all over the place.
My luck, I'll see turkeys during deer season, and deer during turkey season.
Thanks again.
