Im taking the rest of the hunting season to hunt Bear in Front Royal. Since the recent snow storms i have not had the chance to make it to the woods to try to cut a track, but it's rainin today & im hopin to make it out this mornin with any luck. anyone have any thoughts on weather or not the bear may have denned up for the winter with the recent cold temps & snow? anyone cut a track in the snow? The area im hunting in is bear season only as it is public land in warren co. so i cant shoot a deer. AM I WASTING MY TIME?

I don't know your area but... I live in the Roanoke area. I hunt in Craig county which is just to the north. I went hunting Saturday and cut a couple of bear tracks. Plus the bear hunters were out with their hounds and ran several bears pretty close to me. Actually the hounds started to run one down the mountain, across the road and right at me before he turned. I was begining to feel undergunned with a .50 muzzleloader
I don't think you will be wasting your time. I have been seeing bear sign all fall, saw one last month, about a 200 pounder. Even if you don't see any you at least have an excuse to hunt
Good luck.

Rem700,
Go for it. I too hunt near Roanoke and we have cut some tracks last week with the snow. He is definitely hanging around our farm. Someone poached a 6ptr from the road 2 weeks ago and just the other day I went to check to see if anything was eating on him and he was gone. I followed the drag mark about 100 yards. The guts were the only thing that were eaten. I found some dandy tracks in the snow. He is a big one according to his foot. If I see him saturday he will be in trouble. Good luck
