RE: Virginia Sunday hunting...new info

I only get to go hunting when the sun is almost all the way down.
When I get home, the sun is all the way down...and unless spotlighting is now legal, Monday through Friday are no hunt days for me and others.

I find time to hunt. Vacation time or whatever.
Vacation? What' s that? I do not get vacation, or any other paid time off from work.

Sunday Is a day of rest. Call it religous or whatever. I like to see the deer take a rest too. Let them calm down a day
This is one of the arguments covered on the website.

I' m not looking to start an argument, just stating the facts.

Good points DarrellH. I would like to see Sunday hunting allowed and I would also like to see our bow season opened up earlier. I have hunted the early North Carolina bow season and it' s crazy that VA can' t or won' t do something similar. Around here I hear people shooting all the time, in fact theres been more shooting going on today(Sunday) than went on yesterday!

Hey look I' m not trying to start an argument either. I just don' t like sundays being hunting day adn I never ever will. I never will hunt on sundays. I don' t get no paid Vacations. I don' t actually get Vacations. I just take off and don' t tell the bossman. If he fires me then I need a new job. That' s the way it' s been. I work on a Dairy Farm. I hope there will never be hunting on Sundays. One day I believe it will be here tho.

So don' t hunt on sundays. I don' t think dairy farmers or anyone working for them should be able to hunt at all. I never have and never will. It just ain' t right.

Your argument is as bogus as mine. You have no right to try and force your beliefs on someone else. You do what you want to on Sunday and I will do what I want to. This has got to be the stupidist law I have ever heard of. I feel sorry for you people who live in the few states that have such a law.

I respect anyone who doesn' t want to hunt on Sunday, BY CHOICE. One man opinion of rest might be sitting around the house watching TV or visiting with family. I know I conciderHunting a day of rest for me it certainly isn' t work. Its a time that I would have to take my family hunting with me more and spending more quality time together, BY CHOICE. For me this certainly beets watching a football game and screening at the TV. But I would like for that to be MY CHOICE as so many other have expressed.

Duckgrowers,
I' m not arguing either but in the part of the state that I live and hunt in, double digit unemployment rates are common. People who are lucky enough to still have a job do not have the luxury of not showing up for work just to go hunting. Chance are, if they get fired they will be in the unemployment line for a long time. I do not personally know anyone who would be that irresponsible when they have families to support! What myself and several others are simply stating is that we only want the option to hunt Sundays if we choose to do so. Nobody is required to hunt Sundays or any other day of the week for that matter. As somebody else stated, this is America not Iran!

I can see both sides of this argument. As a guy who works most week days, and often have to travel overnight to hunt, having Sunday as a hunting day would be great.

But, remember that we should be considerate of other people that like to use the woods and don' t want to encounter hunters. I like to take my Dog for walks in the woods, but I really can' t during the three months of hunting season here in VA unless I go on a Sunday. Also, don' t forget that the game wardens would have to work on Sunday as well. Someone would have to pay for the extra manpower.

Perhaps if you are on private land or DGIF land that is entirely supported by hunters, that might be an option. But in the National Forests or other land that is less controlled, there are other users of the woods that should be respected.

A couple of us were discussing this the other day. Don' t the game wardens already have to work Sunday to enforce the Sunday hunting ban? Although the force would have to be increased, most supporters I have spoken with agree that a $5/year increase for those that want to hunt Sunday (such as an additional stamp) would be acceptable, and would help offset the additional cost (this point has been brought to the VDGIF' s attention).

I agree with this point, and in an effort to please the majority of the citizen' s, have proposed to the VDGIF to possibly lift the ban on hunting private property, but leave the ban in effect on National Forest/Park lands. No thoughts have been received from the VDGIF, however.

Every state should be aloud to hunt Sundays. This is supposed to be a free country and if someone wants to hunt on a certain day. Then they shoud do so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for these people who cry that Sunday is a day of rest ARE FULL OF IT.I work for 1 of the utilities companies in NC and people cry on Sunday just like any other day if they are not working. So if I have to work cause someone is complaining then I should be aloud the right to hunt if I please.
