Default Anyone around on the South forum?

Nobody posted anything, since I mentioned that Virginia finally has Sunday hunting? Wow... Okay, let me try to living up the place. I normally don't enjoy hunting around here in the nearby metro areas, piedmont, etc... as the areas are overrun with hunters -- more especially deer hounds. When I do find time to get out in the woods, I will grab my Savage .308 rifle and head west to the other side of the Blue Ridge Mtns, where it's more peaceful, and more spread out.

I hear you talking and feel the same way. Fair chase, piece and quiet is where it's at. Thinking about heading the western side more myself.
I think Amelia don't allow dogs.

Aside from the lack of peacefulness, can you use the dogs to your advantage somehow?

Jake,

Some of the hunters I know have tried that approach, when out hunting solo and the clubs are running dogs. The dogs run a real nice sized one with range of the guy, and he pops it right there. Well.... uh... the club with the dogs gets a little upset because the guy shot "their deer", and an interesting confrontation happens. The guy has no choice but to call the VA Game Wardens and reports it right then and there. Almost immediately, the club backs down and lets the guy go about his business with harvesting the deer.

I want no part of that nonsense, but only peace and quiet, with only me, my trusty .308 rifle and the beautiful (and tasty) deer in the Blue Ridge Mtns of the western part of Virginia.
