I am interested in Spring Turkey and hog hunts on the Green Swamp WMA and was hoping someone could give me some direction on where to get started. Ive been to the FL FWC site and the Green Swamp site, and Ive seen the huge "Green Swamp" thread on the site but was hoping that someone could give me a "cliff notes" version on the regulations, and what all I need to get started hunting at Green Swamp.
My previous hunting experience has been limited to hog hunts on private land down near Okeechobee, so it was pretty much just show up with your shotgun at any time of the year and go out into the woods, no license or quota or anything required.
If anyone could get me pointed in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

A..You will need to go to Walmart and get a license...that includes Wild Life Management Permit..
Deer Permit...Turkey Permit...and Hunting Permit..

all this cost about 70.00..if you get the fishing license too.

B. Go back to the FWC site..and pull of the Green Swamp regulations brochure.and check the dates..

C. Simply show up at the gate at the correct time..usaully 5;00 AM during the spring..

D. They will give you an orange piece of paper..I keep mine in my truck while I hunt..

E. From there...you drive your vehicle anywhere you wish on the solid dirt roads..

F. When you find a spot of interest pull over and hunt.

G. When you leave..stop your vehicle and put the orange paper back into a box at the entrance...


NOTE*** Most of the Green Swamp during the first week or weekend says QUOTA only..In order to get a quota { Piece of paper} you have to go to the FWC site during the first week of June...and sign up for where you would like to hunt.,..you can choose up to 3 different places...Then..they go into a lottery type deal..If you are chosen..you get to hunt the first few days before everyone else..If you are not chosen..such as turkey..you will have to miss the first 2 days..you can then show up for the entire rest of the season hunt..and hunt...To my knowledge Green Swamp has never been so full that it turns away hunters..The place is over 50,000 acres.The date to sign up for the turkey { I always forget..makes me mad} it sometime in the fall.
