South Carolina Rut
#3
Great question. SCDNR will tell you a bunch of crap like "our rut lasts from August to Januarary". Bull. Here is what I have gathered to be our rut over the years. Give or take a week on my dates for strange weather.
Oct 1-20 = pre-rut, chasing does
Oct 21-Nov 10 = rut, with the peak being right on Halloween
Nov 11 - 25 = post rut
Nov 26 - Dec 15 = second rut, all does that didn't get tended first time around go back into heat, Dec 5 is the peak of the second rut.
This is strictly the data I've come up with for myself.

Thanks guys.
I've never hunted SC, but might have a chance this year. I want to be there at the chase/ seek phase or peak. It's funny how the south has such different times of rutting. I'm in Central Florida and bow season starts Sep 18th and it will be on a week or two after the opener.
Good Luck to you!

Don't see that here:

The "rut lasts from August - January" came from a DNR officer that taught my son's Hunter's Ed class last year.
Again, as I stated at the bottom of my post that this is strictly the data that I've come up for myself. It's not the Gospel. Take or leave it. I don't care which.
