Default Looking for private land in Blacksburg, VA

Hey guys, I go to Va Tech and I REALLY need to find some private land to hunt in Blacksburg, VA....particularly archery. If any body could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is planty of national forest around here, that might be your best bet. Within the town of Blacksburg, very few places to hunt. You would need to get out in the county and surrounding counties (Giles, Craig, Floyd).

I just graduated from Tech in May. There is some pretty good deer and turkey hunting on National Forest on Poverty Creek less than 20 minutes from school. My roommates and I got about 10 deer and 3 gobblers while we were there, and we spent the heart of the hunting season hunting at home not school. There is good hunting in Craig County too. Good luck trying to find private land! There are lots of farmers to ask. Honestly we had better luck on National Forest though.

Yea I have been scouting some national forest land right outside of the Pandapas Pond no hunting zone, on Forest Service Road 708. Just haven't had the chance to hunt it. Is there any particular spots you guys recommend?

The national forests around here are pretty thick with deer. One advantage that a young man such as yourself could have is fitness. Most guys who hunt national forest tend to stay within a couple of hundred yards of the road. Hike a little further in and you could be in a really good position with few hunters around, and deer being driven to you by the people not fit enough to get back in the woods further. One more thing you might want to try is hanging a sign up at the Newport store asking permission, and offering to do some work for whomever grants it.
