GreenSwampHunter 09-01-2009 04:58 PM

I AM THE WOODS 09-01-2009 07:04 PM

i hunt there, ain gonna get a chance to scout until the day before archery starts, but i did hear that both greenswamp n richloam areas are pretty wet. I myself have a question regarding the greenswamp camps, has anyone received there permits yet for archery season??? i still aint got mine.

GreenSwampHunter 09-01-2009 09:17 PM

once yall get out there i would appreciate a report on the acorn crop. if the acorns are falling i should have some good spots. if not ill have alot of scouting to do. lol

greenswampman34 09-02-2009 02:02 PM

there are some acorns on the ground

GreenSwampHunter 09-02-2009 04:08 PM

thats what i was hoping to hear. thanks.

Chuck7 09-03-2009 01:12 PM

One BIG lesson I learned last year..keep your hunting spots to yourself..

GreenSwampHunter 09-03-2009 02:46 PM

You're learning! :s2::s2::s2:

FLBandit 09-09-2009 06:13 PM

It's quite wet for sure. I've been out once, but didn't get back off the road. Did see some tracks though.

WhitetailsInc.info 09-10-2009 03:00 PM

You can tell me.

bama29 08-20-2010 04:09 PM

Chuck7 08-21-2010 09:48 AM

Alpine_Archer 08-21-2010 12:43 PM

We were over at richloam a few weeks ago and the green swamp was looking... you guessed it WET, you beter have a 4x4 or some good buddy's if you plan on hunting either place. I picked up a permit for gun season.

ACguy 08-21-2010 01:48 PM

I went to green swamp to go scouting a few days ago it was not that wet. It seems to be really wet if you go the day after it rains alot. About a month ago when I went to Green swamp there was spot that the water was up to my knee in the firebreak and last week it only had a few inches of water .

Chuck7 08-22-2010 07:17 AM

I got a 4 x 4 ..and tried it out at Three Lakes..It's my first one and I was very impressed. It's simply a Ford Ranger 2005 but my scout was guiding me through some stuff that looked impossible..She rolled right through. If it wasn't for him..no way I'd done that.,.some places were 2 foot deep in water. not one spin out.and mine does not have a lift kit or huge tires.
Here she is..

Alpine_Archer 08-22-2010 07:34 AM

Great looking truck there chuck.

The main roads arn't that wet but If you plan on getting off the beaten path a 4x4 is a good idea and you never know when its going to rain 2 inches and get things sloppy out there.

Chuck7 08-22-2010 09:13 AM

Thank you sir..Last year during turkey season I had to park off the road at the Green Swamp...and it was very mucky..she had no problems..about 3 times fishing this year she was stuck..I just switched the switch to 4x4 and it came right out. I use to drive a jeep in the army and this is every bit as good ..so far.lol:D

This is what ya need for Richloam. Attachment 11454 or being guaranteed not to get stuck in Green swamp. My everyday driver.

I AM THE WOODS 08-28-2010 10:03 AM

im gonna be stuck in a car again, last year in the swamp i went down 3 run after a couple good days of rain n my car started a floatin, thankfully i have a peppy little chevy front wheel drive with a 2.2, that got me thru it...ive actually come to find the car dont handle to bad as long as u dont get into ruts higher than about 8-10 inches, just gota play it smart and do a little prayin...lol

richwrench 08-28-2010 02:11 PM

Last Friday I hunted Sarasota ALL day & on the way home, 1/2 mile from my house, my '98 F150 with 138,000 miles fuel pump died out. Police were right behind me - wouldn't let my buddy pull me 1/2 mile with a tow strap. Cost me $82.50 to get towed 1/2 mile. Thank God it didn't break in the middle of my hunt. When I hunt Green Swamp this fall I will also have a spare alternator in the tool box just in case. Mud is certainly an issue to watch for, but if you have a high mileage vehicle, don't forget about fuel pumps, starters, alternators, etc.

daleintampa 08-29-2010 07:18 PM

richwrench, Did the Police say why your buddy couln't tow you ? I would like to know what law that would break cause I never knew you couldn't do that.
I would have waited for them to leave. then do it. for a 1/2 mile, I would tell the cops to go blank themselves. :fighting0007:

richwrench 08-30-2010 02:49 AM

Dale, it's illegal to tow on a public road with a chain or towstrap. You have to use a towbar or a dolley, and I own neither. I've used towstraps all my life, just never been caught yet LOL. That cop refused to leave - he sat right behind me with the lights flashing. There were a ton of cops flying back & forth through that intersection that night. There must have been something going on. Then they see ME all camoed out with my NRA & deer head stickers on my truck & they probably thought I was some gun-nut redneck (so what's wrong with that?) & they didn't want me plugging up their intersection. Oh well, first time in 138000 miles I had to be towed, I guess I was due...

Alpine_Archer 08-30-2010 03:10 AM

I've always got away with using a chain with a piece of pipe in the middle. Never had any trouble over here. I would have waited till night time and towed her home lol... or went and got a fuel pump and slapped it in on the side of the road.

LOL - It WAS the middle of the night - that cop was stuck to me like glue - He said "Either you tow it right now, OR I WILL !" Plus the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, so you have to drain the tank & then remove it to gain access to the pump. Back in the good ol' days, you could replace a mechanical pump in 10 minutes with a half inch socket. I miss those days...

daleintampa 08-30-2010 05:30 PM

That Cop was an A-Hole. I dont think he has the right to tow it if you didn't. I think you have a certain amount of time, like 72 hours or something like that. But I could be wrong.
That Cop must have just gone through a divorce or not happy at home. Maybe his Sergeant is Banging his wife. Cops dont have a very good reputation for marriage.

LMAO I believe you have between 24-and 72 hours after it has been red tagged depending on where its broke down. The cop was just eing an *******.

ACguy 09-11-2010 07:37 AM

Today there was alot of people out scouting. Must have been 10 trucks at the gate on 471. The water was higher then I have ever seen it in my 2 years of hunting Green Swamp. There was so much water that I seen Gators in the fire breaks today .

Chuck7 09-11-2010 11:06 PM

I was worried about that...my spot must be swamped out..I'm glad I drew a quota for 3 lakes..it's a little drier in my spot.

Sounds like I'll be hunting Three lakes this year..I don't like water over 10 inches deep.

Alpine_Archer 09-12-2010 02:20 PM

My cousin was out there yesterday as well as richloam. Said the water is in about the same place as it was last year during hunting season. He said the waters dropping but its still real sloppy out there. Let's hope we don't get too much rain between now and novemeber...

Chuck7 09-12-2010 03:45 PM

I hear that...

daleintampa 09-20-2010 03:30 AM

Awesome ! I wont be camping but will be going in on the 471 side. Goodluck to you.

LoloBond 10-03-2010 06:45 AM

Got back from Green Swamp from my regular long weekend trip there. Similar to last week, results were the same, didn't see anything I can shoot at. However, did see something I wasn't expecting to see walking close to my stand, a big black bear. Although the bear spent like 10 minutes around the area I have my stand, didn't give me an opportunity for a good video. After reviewing what I was able to record, at least I have a few seconds where you can see him. The bear is best visible at the 4 second mark on video. Quality is not the best, but though it was worth sharing.

LoloBond,

That is cool that you saw a bear! I had to watch the video about 10 times to see him, but I do see what you are talking about. It does appear to me to be a bear! I am going this weekend. I hope I see a deer or a pig. (-:

I AM THE WOODS 10-05-2010 08:10 PM
