Default S.C Deer Opener THIS Friday

I'm headed to South Carolina tomorrow for the early deer season! I'll be hunting with a great outfitter in Scotia, S.C. His website is:

It starts early in the low country. I'm in Game Zone 2 and must wait until Oct. 11 for rifle season. Good luck.

From the SCDNR regulations.

"Deer Seasons on Private Lands. Game Zone 6.
No limit on antlered bucks.
Limit 2 antlerless deer on either-sex days.
Archery & Gun Hunts: Aug. 15 - Jan. 1, buck only
Either-Sex: Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec. 20, 27, Jan. 1"

"With the Individual Antlerless Deer Tag Program hunters can purchase either 2 or 4 tags per person, for $5 each, which can be used on any day open to deer hunting with the following Game Zone restrictions: ... In Game Zones 3-6 tags are valid starting Sept. 15. Tags do not have to be used on scheduled either-sex days.Tags do not alter the daily or seasonal bag limits prescribed for Game Zones."

So in Game Zone 6there is no limit on antlered bucks. You should buy 2 doe tags just in case you want to shoot your two does when it is not an either-sex day.

In Game Zone 2 we have Bow Season starting Sept. 15, Muzzle-Loaders start Oct. 1, and Rifle starts Oct. 11. We have the same either-sex days when our season opens. Our limits are 5 antlered deer and 10 total, with no more than 2 per day. I'll probably buy 4 doe tags.

We don't have an enforceable limit. The motto for SC is kill all you can. Kill whatever you can. Kill Kill Kill. Our bucks only live upon avg. 1.5yrs.

The trucks of hunters were rolling this morning at 5:00 A.M. Gunfire was echoing through the woods at daylight. With 4 1/2 months of hunting pressure, the bucks that don't get blasted these first few weeks will be the wariest of any deer in the country. Add that to hunting in a jungle and it takes a lot of luck to kill a mature buck.

I hate it. We have the genetics for nice bucks. They just don't get to live over 1.5yrs old. I get so tired of hearing "lower-state VS upper-state".
