Old, Old, Old post. But to answer your questions yes NC used to recognize Wild Boar..

Today the state does not recognize anything special, all are now considered "feral" which the mountain guys fought for many years. Find a hunt club, public land access is kept very quiet and many individuals have gotten into fights over public land hog spots.
