Default Knoxville, TN hunting.

Hi guys, I'm considering a job transfer from Northwest Ohio to Knoxville TN. One reason I'm looking in to the move is improved deer and turkey hunting opportunities. I'm mainly a bowhunter. So, how is the hunting down there? From a purely bowhunting perspective, any move away from the Toledo area is a step up[&:].

I live about 1 hr north of knoxville and I love the hunting here. The hunting close to knoxville isn't to good. Most people who hunt in knoxville hunt out of country,as you won't find a place to hunt in Knox county. But we have alot of private land and depending on where you go,depends on the deer hunting.TN is split up into 3 units A,L,and B.I hunt a county that boarders Unit A and has real good deer numbers and take atleast 2 deer per year on one place i hunt. There is close to 250,000 to 300,000 acres of public hunting about 1 hr up interstae 75 that is open to use during regular deer season and gets low hunting pressure.Mainly because of the Mountanous terrain. If you go to hunt a unit A county the bag limits get more liberal and when you move to a unit L county it is all you can pull the trigger for.You can take 3 does per day there. And Unit B is not as liberal. As for HunterOpel we may not be able to produce 150 inch deer consitanly but out deer herd is in alot better shape/shape than alot of the midwest states. Our buck to doe ratio is real close not sure, just have to research it.I took an 120 in 8pt last year and the year before that i took 130 in 10pt.The big deer are there, you just have to put your time in and work on manageing your property. You should check out www.tndeer.com It is a hunting forum just for TN,its a great place. If you join my name is Cecil30-30.Good luck!!

Not all of Ohio is a big buck/deer goldmine. In Northwest Ohio, public land is few and far between and landowners would rather grump about what few deer are nibbling at their soybeans than allow someoneaccessto take a few does. It's just the way it is.

ILL is like that, everyone thinks there is a big buck around every tree and it just isnt that way, dont get me wrong, we are spoiled when it comes to deer but alot of us hunt real hard..
Tennesse is a great state and didnt mean to ruffle any feathers.. Good luck were ever you hunt..

If your looking for public hand hunts Catoosa WMA in Crossville has some excellent hunting also try Chuck Swan WMA in Tazwell both are around an hour drive from K-town, andyou'll have to apply for a draw at both places but you should'nt have a problem I know people that hunt there every year. Plenty of oppurtunities on private land you'll have to start knocking on doors and shaking hands. You should enjoy Knoxvillearound winter if you are used toupper Ohio winters.
