Too much doggie anger!!
Why all the anger when it comes to dog hunting?? I've done both still, and dog hunting and have enjoyed them both. Where in the heck does all the hostility come from? We can't be that far off from each other?
If the still hunters were required to hunt with dogs before getting a "still hunting license", and the doggies were required to still hunt before getting a "dog hunting license", we'd all be in the same camp! FAT, DUMB, AND HAPPY!!!! Hunting is hunting,,, we just need to walk a mile in the other guys shoes before jumping to conclusions. Could VDGIF consider a "still hunting license" the same as a "dog hunting license"? Why not? We all make mistakes and we all need to be held responsible for our actions. Just a thought. Petey. |
RE: Too much doggie anger!!
I think that it's ok to run dogs in an area that has a high population or the buck to doe ratio is too out of balance...but that's it. I also think that you should be required to have a LARGE parcel of property before allowing dog hunting and that you should only be allowed to take doe's. I think that hunting with dogs, is not really "hunting", it's just killing. There is no skill involved in killing a deer by having a dog run them out. I also think that the dog owner should be held responsible for thier dogs staying on thier property. The owner should be fined for tresspassing, should thier dog(s) cross onto adjoining property without permission. I understand that the dogs don't understand what property lines are, but the owner does and should be held responsible for the dog(s) staying on the correct property. I'm sure that you can understand that the stand hunters pay alot of money and invest alot of time to hunt thier property the way that they want to hunt it. So, they shouldn't be subjected to other hunters and dogs messing up thier respective hunt or property. It's really simple. Treat others the way that you would want to be treated and take responsibilty for your own actions.

RE: Too much doggie anger!!
In Fl on Public Land (WMA) there are designateddog huntingsections and must be observed. Prior to hunting season, all dogs must be registered and dogs must have information on collars. Some WMA'shave the dog designated areas and some don't.

RE: Too much doggie anger!!
The main problem with using dogs to hunt is the lack of respect many hunters seem to have for the next guy. The main reason so many hunters dislike dogs is that they have been sitting quietly on there stands when dog huters show up and take over the area. There is nothing like hunting in the stand youve hunted all season on a pile line and having five guys station themselves on top of you at 8:00 am. I don't need to walk in the other guys shoes,I just need his shoes away from my spot.

RE: Too much doggie anger!!
Dog hunting is fine with me. It is the hunting clubs and the people that getme pissed off. The arrogance of some of themis beyound the pale. I hunt on a small 55 acre farm that is grouped inwith another five like farms. It was a large tract that was cut up.
Well if you could imagine that these farms runinline with a main road on oneside anda river on the back side. At the farendis a property that the club has rights to. Well this clubwill dropoff their dogs on one end and run the dogs through these small farms till they drivedeer tothe leased property. They know thisis illegal, but it doesn't matter tothem. Is this right? I know thatI don't think so and thisis what bothers a lotof us herein Virginia. I couldgo onandgive many more examples of this kind of illegal actions. |

RE: Too much doggie anger!!
As a dog hunter and still hunter, I do my best to keep my dogs on my own place. However, a few years back our club was told by a warden that turning dogs loose on a roadway was legal, as long as it was a public right of way (not private/posted). If your parcel joins a public right of way, (shared road, etc.) then the club is doing nothing wrong according to the law. Ethically maybe, but legally no. This, I suppose, is where all the anger starts. My club dosen't do that sort of thing, but I know of others who do take advantage of this loophole. You will also have to prove they intended to hunt your property, which is impossible to do( per game warden. He said he would refuse to write a ticket on this without absolute proof our club intended to trespass). Sorry about your luck, but some clubs have no morals; I guess it's up to you to confront them with your own lawyer, and force the issue.
It's also true that in areas that have few wardens, the VDGIF relies on hunt clubs to police themselves. Our club does it's best to stay legal, but I know a few who don't reallyseem to care. Whatever you do, please don't resort to shooting dogs, or stealing collars. Just do the right thing and confront them and tell them you and your neighbors will try and take away their lease or sue the landowner. That usually works. Hope it all works out for everybody. |
RE: Too much doggie anger!!
Please explain to me why the dog hunters should only be able to shoot does. You know I try to keep the peace because I do both. I bow hunt, black powder hunt, duck hunt, hog hunt, turkey hunt, etc. etc. etc. anything to do with spending time in the outdoors but that makes absolutely no sense to me. so would you please explain

RE: Too much doggie anger!!
I'm a rural mailman and I've hit more deer dogs (3) than deer (0) this year. Luckily, no major damage to my Jeep, not too sure about the dogs. Most of the dog owners are my customers.
