Killer Primate, congrats on one of the most reasonable posts on this topic.
I'm not a deer dog hunter but don't want to see anybody losing any type of hunting. Once it's gone it's gone forever and I would hate that.
With that being said, too manyposts on this topic and others on this board list deer dog problems that sound serious and genuine.
Denying that there is a problem will backfire andjust sounds arrogant. I'm glad to see that at least some deer dog hunters are working on improving their image.

SouthernDoghunter,
Have you stopped to think about why your preferred type of hunting is under attack? I have; and it isn’t because you kill a deer that was pushed from its bed with a dog. It is because people are sick of having hunting dogs on private property. You keep saying “the dog can’t read.” You need to stop saying that because it makes you sound ignorant. That is not a conversation ending statement. If I can’t have my dog outside not on a leash, why can you? Hunting dogs end up on private or public property time and time again. That is a fact, and it keeps happening. Then the hunter says something that doesn’t sit well with the people who are bothered by it; “the dogs can’t read.” Yeah, no crap, and neither can the hunter, is probably what they’re thinking.
My dog is my responsibility, not the landowners on either side of me. My youngest child can’t read either, and he too is my responsibility. You can’t set a dog free on a small piece of property and expect him to stay on it. It is your job to figure out a way to fix the problem, not the people or hunters who don’t participate. If you elect not to, your privilege will most certainly go away. Like it or not, if you don’t get creative and respectful you won’t be doing this much longer. I hope you’re able to see that, and I hope that your privilege doesn’t go away, but that is on you.

I'm a dog hunter and a still hunter, but I can't take all the anger anymore! People have got to work together for the sake of all hunting. If you dog hunt keep the dogs on your lease, if you still hunt, stay away from my dogs and remember I'm doing my best to keep them where they belong, but somethings are not perfect. As for people shooting dogs, I sincerely hope you never shoot my dogs,,, I can assure you it will not be pleasant when I catch you. Just keep your gun loaded, you're gonna need the extra ammo!!

Here's the real VHDA. Yesterday they showed up in Richmond to say no to a bill that would allow hunting for ALL on Sunday. Also there to voice opposition was the HSUS. Seems the dog chasers will jump in bed with anyone if they'll help their cause - even if it's a well know anti-hunting organization. With VHDA it's either their way or nothing.
Just getting this out to show what kind of a group we're dealing with.

It's no more clearer than DGIF inviting HSUS to sit in on the focus group meetings or the stakeholders meetings and give their opinions concerning hound hunting. I guess that was just fine with you and other anti dog groups. No your statement and assumptions are wrong, we are not working with HSUS OR PETA, It just happen that their lobbyist was there to speak out agianst Sunday Hunting as Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance did.

Some with Religon beliefs feel it is wrong.. Some wants to give the animals a day of rest, others wants to support the landowners and give them a break from hunters. many different views came togeather as one conclusion and that is to oppose sunday hunting.
