Bears!
i hope the state (Fl) will come to it's senses and open a bear season. every year i seem to see more and more bears. i watch the outdoor channel and see them hunt Black Bears in Canada and talk about how big their 400 pound Black Bears are....lol. i seen a Black Bear yesterday that was easily around the 500 pound mark. where i park my truck to walk to my stand there was a bear track and his hind foot was every bit of 8-9 inches long and 4-5 inches wide. i hit one with my truck last year that was well over 500 pounds. i talked to a FWC officer and he said our bears get so much bigger because they eat year 'round and never hibernate. these bears are everywhere and the truth of the matter is, we needed a bear season along time ago butwe have too many bunny huggers in this state. i hate to say it but it's gonna take a child being mauled in a upper class subdivision before anything get's done about this.

RE: Bears!
I agree.....maybe not throughout the whole state, but definately in areas.......even if they put 100-200 limit on them....some kind of reduction is needed.....

RE: Bears!
central Florida is just over run with them. in some w.m.a.'s you see more bears than deer.

RE: Bears!
There was an article a while ago in the Tampa Tribune that said that in most parts of the state that cars were killing black bears faster than they were reproducing. The article said that Ocala was about the only spot in the state where black bearreproduce faster than the number killed by cars and the population there isincreasing. But if the population is increasing and is sustanable, lets open a season in Ocala! I undertand they are every where up there.

RE: Bears!
the bears are so thick in Ocala, you would not need to bait like they do on t.v. just sit in a tree on ANY game trail and you will see them. they are thick in Ocala because FWC releases all the "nuisance" bears that they trap in subdivisions in Orlando into the ONF.

RE: Bears!
Take a look at this 500 lbbruiser released in Ocala .

"Great, now we have drugged crazed huge bears running around Ocala!!!"...doesn't sound much different than some folks i have met out there, lol......
i thought it was drugged, but i had to ask, lol.....i haven't been able to go on any bear calls, other than dead ones and neighbors asking questions....but i hope too ....i was told as there's a need in my area, that i'll be able to go, just haven't had enoughcalls yet........i've got alot of learning to do.....i can't wait....thanks for posting the pic.... |

That is a beautiful animal. It looks like he was in the middle of brushing his teeth when you darted him.

RE: Bears!
I hunted in Jefferson county this year and had more problem with bears than ever before. My 4 year old son and I went to our club to check on some of the spots I had picked to bow hunt and we walked up on a HUGE sow and a cub at only about 30 to 35 steps. That was by far the scariest time I can remeber as a parent so far. My son will not go back to the club with me at all now. I have had them take my trail cameras off the tree with there mouth, just all kinds of problems. I wish they would let us kill some of them.

RE: Bears!
We have 5 acres in lake county just east of sorrento on 46 and over the years the bears have killed several of our goats and one came upon the porch and was looking in the plate glass door..i tried everything to get rid of them, including calling the FWC..all they said was, if we move one, another will just come by so they did nothing..i finally put up an electric fence and haven't seen a bear in two years..yes they need to kill off some and soon before someone gets killed..
