Hey fellows...Is the rut on yet for central Florida?..I was just wondring about using the 'Can ' yet or not ??

Dont know bout florida chuck but here in Va it is, but to answer you question the Can is supposed to work relativley well through all phases of the rut.

i'm about done with the can, i hunted all weekend, 4 days and i used the can and nothing, even tried some grunts, still nothing......

Chuck,

I would say yes. In Florida at the WMAs with high does (probuably all) the unbreed does will continue to cycle. So I would expect you will see rutting intill Feb. Check my e-mail, we were on some hot rutting activity this weekend.

Hey Chuck,
On the property I hunt in Polk, we don't see the big bucks until late December. Florida seems to be weird as far as the rut goes, with deer breeding at many different times of the year.

I can relate big time..next few hunts my calls stay home..I've had the same experience.

I beleive you are correct...late Dec. I called one out with a Can in Florida ..late Dec.and killed it...They were rutting then.

I have had many bucks fighting in my yard. Have notseen many does around them yet!

Chuck,

I would not leave the calls at home. I would take them, but only use it if you see a buck that is not coming your way. I figure if you the buck is not heading towards you have nothing to lose, but yeah I would not really use deer calls on public land. I think the deer get called to all the time and it is hard to trick them.

I shot a rutting buck just before thanksgiving 2 yrs ago. I think deer down here rut from early november through mid february. It seems like some does are always in estrous throughout this period so the rut is much more spread out here resulting in a longer but lighter rut. Deer are much more susceptible to their sexual desires up north because the rut is so much more concentrated... gotta get some when you can! Here we just have to be in the right place at the right time.

chuck, up in our part of the state the rut don't kick in till late janurary. we'll start the rut around martin luther king day.................tony

You sure do live in some awesome deer hunting country..North west Florida is beautiful
