Pupuchito,
Where in SC were you hunting? Are you a member of a club up there? I have family in Columbia and Charleston and have thought about joining a club up there. Great buck. Cheers, Chris |

RE: SC Buck!
Thanks everyone!
I truly do feel blessed to be able to take that buck. It is hard to put into words how I feel because this is the goal most of us hunters want to acheive that of killing a nice buck. Anyways, it had a 19 and a half inch inside spread. I was hunting with an outfitter that I have hunted with before. This was my third time there in the last 4 years. It is Terry Hiers with Blackwater Hunting Services in Ulmer. He does advertise on this site. He has 6600 acres that are spread out throughout Barnwell county(no fences if you were wondering). I was there with my 2 brothers, nephewand the pastor from my church. To be quite honest, the hunting was not great as it seems we hit the tail end of the rut. I was the only one of eight of us there to shoot a buck. Blackwater has a minimum inside spread of 12 inches for bucks. I shot it on my first evening. Two does came out and i saw another deer in the woods and I glassed it and it spotted me so I had to freeze what seemed like an eternity. Finally it moved out into the clear cut with the other 2 does and it was a doe. About 5 to 10 minutes later out stepped this buck at 85 yards. As soon as his head cleared the woods, I knew he was shooter and put the cross hairs on him and the rest is history. Again, thanks everyone for the congrats. Oh and thanks Rebfor putting the picture in the post, I am not quite sure how to do that(any tips would be appreciated) Steve I wil post a few more pictures when I get them on this computer(i'm at work) |

RE: SC Buck!
Small world. I hunted with Terry for about 6 years. Deer and turkey. As a matter of fact I was the first one to ever kill a turkey down there after he opened up. I love the lodge they have there. Does Connie still do all the cooking? They use to have great food.
|
RE: SC Buck!
Yes Connie still does the cooking and it is better than the hunting!:DI am a walking commercial for that place. The lodge is great and they are great people. One of my brothers killed a nice when we hunted there 2 years ago. He has been there 4 times and I think he wants to hunt turkeys there next year. We always see alot of turkeys when we are there.

RE: SC Buck!
I miss turkey hunting there, but at 450 per day it adds up quick. That is my spring break from teaching and I wanted to hunt all week and not just a couple of days.

Pupuchito,
Wow, great story. Glad you posted it. You do make theTerry's service seem great. Maybe if I ever want to spend some money and do a trip I will check them out. Cheers, Chris |
RE: SC Buck!
Does Terry still take the deer to Hank Deer Proc. to get them cut up? If so did he ever tell you how Hank shot his neighbor?
|
RE: SC Buck!
Hey Chris,
If you have the chance to do it sometime the experience is worth it because you can shoot something everytime on the stand, doe or buck.. If you want a better chance to kill a buck, I still think Texas is the place to go, just a lot more pricey. Steve |
RE: SC Buck!
Parrot Head,
Oh yes he still has Hank process the deer. You gotta tell me that story. Old Hank and the "people" he has working for him are.....how should I put it.....very interesting.(Can you say inbred?) Going to see Hank is always the highlight at the end of the trip ![]() |
RE: SC Buck!
Well, I guess ol Hank and his neighbor did not get along. This was years ago and I dont remember where his place was or how to get there. He use to live in a Mod. home and his deer proc. stuff would be on the right side of the house from the road. His drive way was on the right side of his property to and pulled you right up to the deer drop off. So Terry tells me one day they really get into it and the neighbor comes over and is threatening Hank on his property. I cant remember if the neighbor had a gun or not. Anyway Hank shot him dead on his property. He didnt have to do anytime since it was self-defense. Hank use to have a pretty hot daughter years ago. The last year I was down there I asked him how many deer he cut up the year before he said 2,800. That's a lot of deer.

RE: SC Buck!
That surprises me a little about Hank because he always seems sooooo mellow. But that probably is the Jack Daniels he is usually on.
