Went out for a couple of hours this morning..

Right before I parked I saw a doe walking west after crossing Powder..young doe.
In the stand I heard no hogs or deer..
It's very wet out there. It must have rained there yesterday..
My next hunt..
Will be Powder this Friday evening after school lets out.
Saw some nice birds and wildlife

Parula Warbler
Common Yellow Throat warbler
Palm Warbler
Tufted Titmouse
Cardinal..female
Bob white quail
Northern Catbird
White eyed Vierio
Red shouldered Hawk
Carolina wrens
Pilated Woodpecker
American crow

Big black fox squirrel
Gray squirrel

I love the common yellow throats. They stay in Florida year round.

I saw a hog on leve on the way in (i always check levee 1st.) and some turkeys
on tram and some on ellis.
Oh, I have not posted since last year but i check regularly to keep up to
speed.
I bought a area map from the check station and they said swmd has bought
900 acres at the end of powder. no vehicles yet but walkins are ok.
I went up and looked and it looks real good.I walked about a mile up
and saw 2 does in the pines. hope the open up vehicle trafic soon.

Can you drive all around Powder and 3 mile run with 2 wheel drive? Three Mile Run was usually very sandy last year.

Anyone know the number of deer checked at Green Swamp so far? Either 471 or RockRidge gate?

Cheers,
Chris

3 Hogs and 3 deer? Not real high is it? I wonder how many hunters have entered and existed RockRidge so far. I.E. I wonder what the number of hunter days it takes to take a hog or pig at GS?

Is it the heat that is keeping the animals not moving much during the day? I would have expected the number to be higher.

I do wish that SWFWMD would let vehicles in year round and open the gates earlier in the morning for hunters. I think some gun hunters have been putting up stands during archery season and I am sure that the people in the woods is increasing the felt pressure to game and keeping them from moving as much. If the gates were opened year round than some people would do this in the summer and not during archery season. Also if the gates were opened earlier I could get way back in the woods before first light with plenty of time to let game settle back down.

Cheers,
Chris
