RE: hanging tree stands early
i totally agree with you, but be careful.......some areas will take it down for you......or they could do a burn in your area a few days ahead of time and when you show up opening morning, you'll see your stand burnt to a crisp......and they arent responsible for a thing......

RE: hanging tree stands early
I scouted Green Swamp back in May and found a nice climber with cushions and all. I cannot believe someone left it. I wish it had a phone number I want to know if the owner of it ment to leave it. I would never leave a nice climber in the woods over the summer. Oh, well. Maybe I will keep my eye on it and see if it is getting used this season. Whatare the rules on leaving a stand at Green Swamp?
Cheers, Chris |
RE: hanging tree stands early
most , if not all wmas have the rule, you can hang them the day before and collect them the day after.....it should be in the brochure for green swamp.

RE: hanging tree stands early
Huntnma,
I will have to read the WMA brochure for Green Swamp to see what is says about stands. I kind of think someone put the climber and forgot where they put it. Or maybe they got hit by a car and dead or something. I just cannot imagine leaving a climber like that in the woods outside of hunting season. I guess since it is not mine I should just forget about it, but it is assame if a climber like that just sits out there and rots. Chris |
RE: hanging tree stands early
i think that they just have the mentality that no one will find it.....keep an eye on it and do what you feel you have to do.......i personally wouldnt take it, especially if it was new....keep an eye on it, see if it's being used....then decide.....i've come across 2 climbers, real nice ones while out without locks on them...the one i took down and laid at the base of the tree, it was right there where the lease holders of the ajoining land could of seen it and taken it......the other i left where it was, though i did think about hunting out of it.....it was in a prime area and he wasnt hunting, but i left, i know i should of stuck around, but he could of just left and stunk it all up or i would stink it up for him.....sucked..

RE: hanging tree stands early
Huntnma,
Because I will never know the history of the stand and it is not mine I will just leave it in the woods. One of my hunting buddies said I should move it to a better site and use it. (-: But naw I will just leave it there. I may look it over real well and see if they scratched in a phone number. Many people I talk to say they have done that. I just want to know the story behind it. Cheers, CB |
RE: hanging tree stands early
I have a ladder stand on Powder but it has 2 chains around it.800 yds from the road.My name is on it..Chuck
I also have a tall store bought ladder 16 footer on Powder that I can use.The hunter abandoned it...He shot a 4 point and a nice hog from it. This one is 1 mile deep and very hidden Both stands have been there 6 years.. |
RE: hanging tree stands early
Chuck,
My area I will hunt off Powder is about 100 yards from a roughly 16 foot tallmetal ladder stand. I wonder if it is yours? I will have to look at more closely later. It is in an area of Pine trees and looks like it was set for mainly rifle hunting. But I believe you hunt a little deeper and this stand is only about 1/2 mile off Powder Grade. Cheers, Chris |
