yes sir..i park outside of the gate on the Rockridge Gate side. The Green Swamp is open for birders / hikers .Once parked..I ride my bycycle. It's ok to do that. There is an opening to the left of the first gate for bikers to go through. On th e2nd gate the opening is on the right hand side. Florida is the 3rd biggest birding state in the USA . The Green Swamp is a great place to bird..From now till early October the warblers are migrating. Chuck7 |

RE: Florida Buck Signs?
With all that talk I may head out to the Green Swamp and check ..my only problem..my archery place is 12 miles from the gate round trip.:(
I wish the gate was open. |
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
all the bucks on my game cam are still in velvet. i'll be heading out again this weekend to check for more sign. as soon as they start scrape'n, it'll be time to move my cam off the trail and over a scrape.
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
I will see if I can get a hold of my friend's pics and post them, he has a 9 or 10 pt and a spike with hard horns. The other bucks he has on camera are still in velvet. A majority of my bucks will be in velvet for another week or so.I live in Taylor County Florida BTW

|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
I've been out several times as well and have seen very little sign (other than tracks of course).Plenty of tracks though, so either the buck:doe ratio is extremely non-competitive therefore no need for scrapes/rubs, or they just are not interested yet. This is a new WMA to me so I am not sure which, but I have not noticed very manyold rubs either.

RE: Florida Buck Signs?
i thought it was a lil later too, but from the sign, it's on.....or it's almost on....remember this is Orange, Osceola counties.....i heard polk county is in rut in like dec. and its just a hop skip and a jump from us., this is Florida, Lord only knows what those bucks are thinking, lol......i'm using my can opening weekend without a doubt, might not work, but i have to try, lol.....

RE: Florida Buck Signs?
got a 6 point this last weekend. i hit the 'ol grunt tube and he came in look'n for a fight
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
I am jealous CamoCop. All I have seen within bow range were does and a spike and because hunting on private property I could not take them. What part of Florida did you kill the 6pt. Pics would be nice:D
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
north central Florida during a quota muzzle loader hunt (secret spot ;))
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
i'll try to get pic's on here soon, the biologist said he was only 1.5 years old but weighed 132 pounds. i thought he would have been older than that by his body size.
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
Hey CamoCop did you see him first and then hit the tube or did you blind call him in?
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
Congrats Camo...:)
|
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
i never saw him before grunting. it was about 9:05 in the morning and i hadn't seen anything up untill that point. i figured what the heck, might aswell grunt a little...not like it's gonna keep me from seeing anything. so i hit the 'ol grunt tube a few times, paused for about 5 minutes, hit it again a few times, paused for about 5 minutes and was going to hit it again when i heard a soft grunt to my left. i slowly looked up and seen him walking to me like i had him on a rope. he would grunt when taking a step and he was smelling everything he walked by. he finally turned broadside at about 67 yards and i dropped the hammer on him. he jumped straight up and kicked with both back legs. he ran a half circle towards me and crashed about 15 yards from the base of my tree.
i don't think i would have ever seen him if i wouldn't have grunted when i did. i know he wasn't trailing a doe because nothing moved through there since i was in the stand (at approximately 5:30 a.m.). |
RE: Florida Buck Signs?
Congrats on the deer, looking forward to the pictures.
