I'm on the verge of buying a new gun. I want a remington 700 adl for the most part but will change if the caliber dictates it. What caliber should I get? I'm joining the USAF soon so I'll get to hunt new and exciting places. I was thinking of a 7mm mag or a 30-06, the question is can I handle the 7mag as well as I could handle a 06? I'm not a large framed person so I was thinking I might be more accurate with the 06. But then again, what if I could shoot the 7mag good? I have no one I could barrow a 7mag from to shoot it once or twice to see how bad it is compaired to the 06. Other than those two, I was thinking of screwing the whole magnum thing ang getting a 243. What is the effective range on a 243? Is it worth the money? I have a real crappy 30-06 at the moment. Is the kick from a 7mag about the same as a 06 with 180 grain bullets? hmmm. So many questions so little money. I wish I could just buy them all and just keep all the ones I liked
. I hunt mainly Georgia.

I hyave killed nine deer since last year with my 243 and none went more than 20 yards and most dropped in their tracks and I am by no means an excellent shot, adequet at best. I did retire my 06 when I got the 243 but will take it if I ever get out west hunying elk or other big game but for Ga deer the 243 is more than enough. I hunt around Albany Ga.

I agree with Outlaw. The .270 has a good cartridge selection and will do a great job on anything you want to hunt in N.A. except the large bears (and would probably handle them also).

i live in LaGrange Georgia..I use my RUGER SUPER BLACK HAWK in 44mag...for deer... but if i were you i would get a 270/270wsm ..243..25-06..280..but your shooting prety light bullets in a 7mm mag so to me it dont kick much but other people say it does..im use to shooting my mossberg 835 ulti-mag with 3 1/2" shot shells so i really dont think about recoil win i get a gun.

If you're service bound, 30-06. Ammo available anywhere, will work on just about anything you want to hunt. Myself, I use a .35 Whelen. As I reload, I can load them hot, or I can load down to same as .35 Remington. 7mm-08 is a good choice, good knockdown with Nbst. mild recoil. Lots of choices out there.
