I was just wondering if any of you KY boys have any thoughts yet about the rut. I havent got to do much hunting this year cause of a broken foot so i havent got to watch the deer movement. Hopefully them deer will still be plenty on the move when Nov 11th gets here. Also lets here if any of you have had any luck,

I have hunted out there the past several yearsopening week and the second week of the season. WhileI saw deer on every trip, the second week was much better as far as movement.
The game warden I hunt with says the 17th seems to be the magic day. Obviously deer do not have a calendar to operate by, but that date usually seems to coincide with the photoperiod that sparks the peak movement.
If there is a cool snap I would want to be in the woods that week. While there is no bad time to hunt in Kentucky, if you are faced with limited time I would choose that second week to focus on. This season I will be in Saskatchewan, but some of my buddies will be in KY the 13th-17th. Hopefully they will not be wishing they were leaving a week later!!

its gettin close....the bucks are ready but the does still aren't QUITE hot. I went this last weekend and i saw 8 on friday, 7 on saturday, and8 on sunday of those 3 were bucks, and one was chasing, and one came to check out a doe saturday morning. She wasn't quite ready as he wouldn't come close enough to get a shot....but i think next weekend could be the weekend.

The buck I killed Sunday in Hardin County,I believe was chasing a doe. I just seen her running. I grunted a couple of times and about 45 minutes later I had a 12pt. 216lb on the ground. There aer pictures in the 2006 hunting contest forum in Team 12.
