Mark Warner was elected into a "No Win" situation. The state budget here in Va. is so fouled up that there IS no way to fix it short of making just about everyone in the state mad at him.
I suspect that he contemplated this move for a very long time. In the last few days he has terminated untold numbers of state employee's, and slashed the budget across the board.
For a politician, That is like commiting suicide.
I have gained a new respect for him in the process. Chances are he will not be re-elected due to his ability to make the "hard decisions" but Virginia will be a better place in the long haul because of him.

The only respect I have for Warner is when reporters tried to lure him into the standard democrat mantra of guns are bad, he declined, turned the tables, and made them look like fools. Speaking of budget woes, has he ever decided whether or not to return his salary to the state budget? I know that it would only be a drop in the bucket, but every little drop can help.

We're getting off topic here, but here goes.
1. in virginia, nou can't suceed yourself as govenor. Tradition also says one term only.
2. Here's where the "no car tax" comes back to bite us in the butt. Turn that off, and the state budget is almost balanced, but the party that nullifies it commits suicide.

I lived in Az. for awhile and we paid a 6.7 % sales tax vs. the 4.5 here in Va. I really would not mind a slight increase in tax across the board if it kept the "car" tax out of the picture, I mean I will give up a penny at a time it does not seem to hurt, but living in northern Va. and getting hit with $700 for having a decent vehicle to drive hurts when you get hit with that amount all at one time.

yeah he cut 20% of his pay, but since he was already a millionare before, and he makes $150,000 a year, I really don't see 20% as that much. Though I still give him a little (not much) credit for taking that 20%. I wrote a lot of letters when he dipped into our VDGIF funds at the begining of the year and suggested he cut his pay, glad he listened <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> During the first of the year my wife was laid off. Now she has a better job but she might be laid off again. Sure wish our state could get their heads out of their tails and get us back on track.
