Default Good Scope for 17HMR

I am buying a Marlin 917VS laminate, and am looking to get a nice 4-12X 40 or 50 scope for it. I have done a lot of research on this subject on other forums and reviews, but would like some more in the field and at the range opinions of good scopes to buy for this gun. One downside. i am a college student on a tight budget, so i do not want to spend over $150 dollars on this scope. Looking for clear optics and a fine reticle. Thanks for input, and cannot wait to make a purchase.

Ive got a Bushnell sportsman 4-12x40mm AO on my Savage 93R17 17HMR. Plenty of scope to hit jack rabbits at 150 yards.

I've got a extra scope I'll sell you its a Simmons Deer Field 4-12x40mm adjustable objective lense, its new in the box never been mounted on a gun. I'm asking $75 for it.

where at in Kansas are you from? I'm from Kansas city, MO just moved to Arizona a little over a year ago.

Have you taken a look at Cabela’s. They sure have a selection of scopes and I’m sure you could find something in your price range. I have a Bushnell Trophy 6-18 x40mm on my Savage 17 and it works pretty good but priced more then what you wanted to spend. Take a look at the link. www.cabelas.com . You might find something in your price range.

Ill second that, it is a very good rimfire scope. The only downside is the open style target turrets they are open to the elements and can get crud and dust in them the scope would be good if the rifle is used mainly as a target/bench gun. For a hunting scope id want the turrets to have dust caps to keep the junk out. If i was to go with a BSA Id go with a contender the target turrets have dust caps. But on the other hand if you are not very good at ranging and judging shot distance the sweet 17 has a trajectory compensator out to 300 yards for the 17 hmr.

Thanks for all of the input. I have been thinking about the sweet17 in 3-12, and also thought about the Tasco WC 4-16 will closed target turrets, and the simmons 4-12

I will probably pick all this stuff up after my graduation at the end of the month.

High Desert- I am from overland park, KS just south of kansas city, i know your neck of the woods pretty well.

Thanks again
