i was wonderin which gun has the most nuts and what the price difference is

The 17 HMR is a necked down 22 Magnum.

The 17 HM2 is a necked down 22 long rifle.

The 17 HMR would be good for crows and ground hogs

The 17 HM2 would be good for squirrels and rabbits

I would like to have both

I would say the 17 HMR has more walnuts

17hmr will split small gopher in two. who cares about the price of ammo when you can pack that much velocity and power in a rimfire.

I'm gonna get a remington 597 .17 HMR
I used to have one in .22LR and I found one in .17 HMR, it will be my "out to 100yd" fox sized game gun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've gathered from friends who have HMR's, you can pretty much consider anything out to 100yds to be on target. the rise and drop are so insignificant that it shouldn't make a different in whether or not the critter is dead. Also, from what I've been told, you might want to stick with the 20 grain hollow point HMR's over the ballistic tips... at least when it comes to fox and such.

Yes, i would agree with sticking to those hollowpoints for the fox and such. Don't use them on gopher sized animals, i find they just pass right through them like they were FMJ's. You are also correct with considering anything out to 100yrds on target, it drops something like 1" at 100yrds.

Also i think the mach 2 is rather stupid to get, ammo is $2 cheaper than the HMR for the same number of rounds but it doesn't have near the abilities of the HMR.

I've heard a lot about 100+ yard shots for fox but is a 50 some yard shot at squirrels over kill with the .17hmr or hm2?

Not at all. The only thing I STRONGLY recommend is that you hit them in the head ONLY with these, and only use the ballistic tips for squirrel (HP bullets will get the job done, but they won't expand properly on something so small). If you hit them below the neck, you can forget using any meat from the front half of the body, but if you only go for the back legs and backstraps, I guess you wouldn't have that problem.
