RE: best gun for youts?
Any .22 caliber centerfire would be great choice for yotes, if your state allows it. I have a .223 and use it on them all the time. Using varmint bullets, usually there will only be an entrance wound with no visible exit wound. Other .22 calibers that would work are the .222, .22-250, and the 220 Swift. The .222 packs a little less powder than the .223. The .22-250 and the 220 Swift pack a lot more powder, and they tend to do a little more damage to the hides on close shots.
A shotgun or probably even a .22 mag would work at close distances like you mentioned. |
RE: best gun for youts?
A 204 Ruger will be great for shots out to 100-400 yards but at 30 yards you might have some pelt damage. And Ive heard good things about the 17 Rem.

RE: best gun for youts?
.22mag more punch then 17 and plenty flat enough for 100-150yard shots

RE: best gun for youts?
243 50 grain . will shoot flat for about 250 yards

RE: best gun for youts?
I use a .243 Win Savage Model 11 - Bushnell 6 x 18 power scope - haris bipod
for coyotes - I have found that the smaller grain ammo fragment alot more and does more pelt damage. I use 100 grain ammo and it seems to hold together better and passes through the animal with minimal pelt damage. I have my rig sighted in dead on at 250 yrds. I am only an inch low at 300 yrds and an inch high at 100 yrds plenty sufficient for coyotes - but you'll want to tighten that up a bit if you're going to hunt anything smaller than a coyote - |

RE: best gun for youts?
At these ranges I would use a 12 gauge, 3.5, BB shot or the new heavi-shot predator load. The rifles are good, but there are just some applications where a shotgun is much better. A shotgun was always my favorite.

RE: best gun for youts?
i like my 223. got enough power to knock em down at 350-400yrds. and the shells dont cost an arm and a leg. but other than that i like the 17 and 22mag for closer distences
|
RE: best gun for youts?
for up to 100 yds the 17 hmr is great. little pelt damge, after that the 223 is excellent and cheap to shoot. pretty much any 22 centerfire is good enough. im just partial to the 223
|
RE: best gun for youts?
so yall think the .223 would be best and keep my 22. revoler for the closer shots?
|
RE: best gun for youts?
wats up 101, as u know, i use a 22-250, and it works great at all ranges, especially for shots 350+...good luck!

RE: best gun for youts?
I use a Ruger Mini-14 in .223 Rem.

RE: best gun for youts?
223 220swift or 22-250 are all good choices, however nothing beats a shotgun sitting over bait. i have killed piles of these things, and a shotgun is by far the best. Why kill one at a time when you can kill 2,3,4, or 5 at a time if your lucky. bb shot is my choice with an xtra full choke.

RE: best gun for youts?
About the saboted rounds. they're accelerators. its a 55 grain 22 caliber in sabot. the things are some kind of fast though, and extremely flat shooting out to 400 yards or so. the only problem is that factory ammo is kind of expensive(i bought a box for like 28 bucks). i'm not really sure what kind of pelt damage it does. i haven't had a chance to try it yet. i'll let ya'll know if i try them.

RE: best gun for youts?
I think the .17 would be a pretty good gun.
