Default bait,call,both for yotes

iam a hunter from ohio and i was wondering if it is better to bait call or a little of both for yotes. i was also wondering if yote hunting is better in the day or night??? also would it be better to use a 30-06 or a shotgun with buck shot. back to the bait would it work to get a live rabbit and put it in a live trap and use a rabbit distress call or just use meat???

Baiting and calling are not one of the same. Either bait, which to have good success baiting, it's best to have an endless amount of bait, to freshen the bait on a regular basis, to get the animals to stay in the area, sure you could use a road killed dear to bait with, but if two or threee coyotes show up when you're not there, it'll be gone before you get back. So you need to be able to freshen a bait pile. And is baiting legal in your area?
Calling doens't require the smell of something dying. On the contrary, it's best to keep the area that you are calling odor free, mainly human odor free. Some guys use a decoy, it's also NOT necassary. Learn how to use a hand call, go into the area, call it, and if nothing shows up, move on after 15 upto 30 minutes to a new area. The distress sound is all the bait you need!!

I use bait and calling but in a difrant way than most people. Yotes have a big aria that they hunt in so i try to cut it down with bait like a road kill.I place the kill in a good calling spot. let the yotes have at it for a day or 2. Then sneek in to my calling spot look at the bait [no yote i start calling]. This seems to work very good all the yotes from very far away will come to eat the bait but only the bigest stroungest will get to eat the reast will come running to your call.

As HOWLER said decoys can be used but not necassary to kill yotes. There is a ton of decoys that will cost you not a dime. rabbit hide stuffed bunny fox hide all most any hide. A dog is allso a real good calling decoy yes [live dog]

I live in a wide open land so I call A little longer than 30 mins depends on wind and how far my calling is getting out.

That works great in my area. I think decoys dont make that much of a difference. Every time I use one nothing ever comes in.
