I've been looking for some less damaging shells for .22lr for sqrls. I don't like using solid points, because it doesn't expand, but hollows seem to expand too much at that close range. I've worked on cutting some lead tips by hand, some have pretty impressive velocities, but what shape would be best for moderate expansion?? One style I worked on was basically shaped like a 12 gauge slug, I sawed off the tip of the cap, to about 1/2 it's original length, then drilled a small hole in the end with the tip of a drop point blade, I think it's the best of all I tried. Anyone else have any ideas??

Have you tried the .22 shorts? I don't know what kind of gun you're using but I do know that if you use a bolt action with remington c.b.'s (shorts) all you pretty much hear is the fire pin hitting the shell! No bang!
Be careful cutin those shells down. I've heard of barrels exploding because of that same treatment to the shell!
Good luck!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
