what is this gun good for ..... by any chance do you know any good sites for them

Mostly small game and pests. A couple of my friends have them and use them for groundhogs, coyotes, rabbits and other small rodents. I have heard of some people using them to kill deer, head shots only though. Basically anything you would shoot with a 22 magnum.

I agree with trailblazer. And first of all most all the states I know do not allow a rimfire rifle to be used for deer hunting. As for the .17HMR it is very capable of killing a coyote. "If you keep the range to a minimum." And I mean I wouldn't shoot at a yote unless it was less than 100yards away. A coyote can take alot of punishment from lead and still run. As for taking red fox, grey's, woodchuck, squirrel it's a wicked gun to shoot. I use a .22mag. all the time for taking fox, and my buddy just bought a .17 last winter, and it will take down a fox on the spot. It's a fun gun to shoot except the ammo is a little expensive, compared to a .22mag.

Many feel that the .17 HMR is revolutionary, and they can make a pretty good case for this.

It's quiet, about like a .22 LR.

It may produce the most acurate out-of-the-box guns ever.

It is the flattest shooting rimfire at all practical ranges.

Despite this, it loses energy fast at the end of it's flight, and falls to earth at about the same distance as the .22 LR.

The bullet is extremely frangible, meaning fewer ricochets.

All of these things work together to make it an ideal choice for small game hunting, mid-range varmint shooting, target shooting, and plinking.

For any calibre there is, someone has killed a deer with it, or claimed too.

I'm sure someone out there has "killed a deer" with a BB gun.

I've even heard a story about a deer "wandering" onto a military target range, just as .50 cal. practice was commencing... no deer left when it was over.

The .17 HMR deer kill... it's either a tall tail, or an extremely well placed head shot at close range, and it's still poor judgement.

I wouldnt recommend coyote with the 17 unless its a real close shot. Deer hunting would be illegal in most if not all states and even if legal doesnt mean its ethical. They are fast,accurate, and kill. Gotta luv them.
