I see a lot of people saying to use a .223 Myself, I've used a .243 with GREAT success. Of course, I also use it for deer hunting and antelope on occasion. Though, if I were to buy one of those two strictly for varmint hunting... yeah, I'd have to side with a .223 as well.

I think that depends largely on the individual gun. If you get a gun designed specifically for varmint hunting, with a heavier stock and a "bull" barrel... you won't feel a kick hardly at all. My .243 is relatively light and I feel it kicks less than a 12 gauge.
