is jackrabbit meat good eating? Me, my dad, and my brother went camping last year and I shot one. we skinned it and roasted it over a campfire. We fed it to the dog. I remember that it smelled like steak. are they any good?

if it smelt like steak why didn't you just give it a try? i've personally never eaten it but i've definitely eaten a lot of interesting things while ice fishing by a shack warming wood burning stove. funny how the one extra drink you didn't need can start the ball rolling hahaha

Young ones are as good as a cottontail or a snowshoe hare. Older ones tend to be tough but can be made into a really good stew in the crockpot.

Yep, crockpots are great for tenderizing some of the tougher cuts and they save a lot of meat from various animals that many people would grind up for burger.

we used to eat em when I was a youngster.I do remember being told to look for spots on thier liver and if you find any don't eat it.

They are great eating. Crock pot is the way to go.

The spots on the liver thing is a sign of tularemia, (rabbit fever) and cottontails are suspeptible as well, a bad case of it makes the liver look like it has cottage cheese on it. Only ever met one guy who caught it, and that was from a muskrat he skinned out on his trap line.
