Coyotes.

Was watching a program last evening about the wolves in UPPER Peninsula Michigan. The narrator was supposed to be a wild life biologist but not employed by the state. He claimed that with just 800 wolves loose on the main land they were not effecting the deer herd much. He claimed it was the over population of coyotes that was the problem with the decreasing deer herd and the last couple of bad winters.
He claimed if we took 60% of the coyotes in the UP it would only put a small dent in the population.
I know that at our deer camp east of Escanaba we have not seen or heard a wolf ever since I bought the place in 1990. Coyotes we never seen and never heard till about 2001. Since then we see at least 3 a day every day during deer season and the noise they make during the night tells me there are several packs in the area.
Is to bad that the season is closed during fire arm season there.
