I guess I have never worried about that. Galvanized shoudn' t rust in the short time that the hide is actually wet. If you want to treat them just dip them in speed did. May not stick very well though, traps need a light coat of rust for the dip to work well on them. Spray paint would likely be as good as anything. I just use the wire stretchers untreated.
