Default squirel shot size

just wanted some thoughts on what is the best shot for a 12ga pump shotgun for squirrel. Id use a 410 or something else but other than my rifles, my slug guns, and my muzzleloader and some of my tactical guns, the shotgun is the only one I really can use. So what size shot and ammo should I use for squirell and rabbit.

I hunt with a 20ga, but I like 5s or 6s. Enough pellets for a fairly full pattern at 30yds or so but the pellets are still large enough to get through the hides and do some damage.

yea I def am gonna invest in a 20ga soon. I have a 20 guage slug gun but that wont work ha. Maybe since the 12ga is a little more bang bang, should I try a 6-7

#4 high brass, full choke. I've been hunting these same squirrels for years, they don't often give me a chance for a close shot.

Squirrels, 7 1/2 if I'm expecting to see fox squirrels, 8 if primarily grays. It kills more by concussion than penetration, kind of like punching one real hard. Doesn't tear up the meat.

For rabbits, I use 6.

Both cases 12 gauge, modified choke.

I like #5, sometimes #6. The smaller shot sizes make it hard to clean the meat.
