Default First frost

Just wondering, I grew up always being told to wait for the first frost to kill squirrels and rabbits in order to get rid of the wolves they carry throughout the summer but I see people in areas where it hasn't frost yet hunting. Didn't know if this was common practice or an old precaution.

I have been squirrel hunting in NC at least 39 years.
I always heard that to.
But I have never shot a squirrel with warble on it.
I just go ahead and hunt as soon as the season opens.
What town, and county are you in?
I am in Seagrove, Randolph county.

I went squirrel hunting opening day 2 years ago and took home fleas.... Now I wait till its a little chillier. Rabbit doesn't start until November here so its normally cold by then anyways.

I live just outside of Weaverville NC which is in Buncombe county and my grandpa always told me to wait after the first frost, and really everybody I know of that squirrel hunts use that as the rule.

as far as rabbits go... I was taught as a youngster to always check their liver for spots.
