Are you a resident or non-resident of Illinois? Either way, you will just need a regular hunting license and habitat stamp.
Second, yes you can use the mini-14, but I would use ballistic tip ammo for they don't skip like the heavier ammo does from the .223 for the houses are so close is why they won't let us use HP rifles to hunt deer with. Third, no you don't need tags for 'yotes, just plenty of ammo and a place to go!!!! What part of Il are you plannning to hunt? |

I would say that with you being in the proximity of Chicago and areas, you may have a hard time finding a place to hunt.
I used to work in Chicago for 5 years and know what you are dealing with. The best thing you can do is go out to the local farmers and start door knocking and see what that gets you. I know there is some public hunting areas up there, but don't know where they are. I used to goose hunt up there, but was only with some of the locals that I worked with who had family who owned property. That and talk with the local Game Wardens and see what they can point you to. |

Coyotes
You can't hunt Silver Springs with a rifle. I don't think you can shoot coyotes there unless they changed it in the last few years. Your best bet would be to go west in Kendal Co. and farther and start asking for permission. Don't tell them you are a beginner, because you will probably get a lot more no answers than yes anyway. Good Luck.

Silver Springs fact sheet says:
"8 hunters per day. Shotguns with shotshells only. See below" So, no slugs. Is buckSHOT a "shotshell?" |
I believe any shell with more than one piece of lead is considered a shotshell.

Shotshells are bird shot. The largest size is bb in lead for Illinois. Public land may require non toxic shot. |
Is it legal for you to have a friend buy a resident pass and you use it?
|
I live near New Lenox. I'd be interested if you are still offering.

Will county resident.
If the offer is still open I'm looking for a place to hunt coyotes.

Hunting coyotes in suburbs
Hi! I am not a hunter but am hoping people can help me with some questions. I live about 16 miles from the city in Oak Brook. We live in a neighborhood on acre size lots. Yesterday we can w/in seconds of losing our family pet beagle to 2 coyotes in our yard a few feet from our house at 8 am in broad daylight. Beyond upsetting but luckily we saw the coyotes just in time and ran them off. I've just found out there are a ton of them close because of a wooded reserve just behind our development. These are going to be silly question for you hunters but I really need some help! Can I shoot them if in my yard? I thought of getting s pellet gun but sure that won't keep them away. Anyone know the laws regarding this or have any good ideas? I'm practically afraid to go out in my yard!
Thanks! |
Call an professional exterminator.
There are people who do this for a living + business is good, particularly in housing developments ! |
I live in Oak Brook which is in DuPage County. I do not really want to hunt them but I cannot stand back and let them invade my yard and possibly kill my dog! I just want to learn the rules and regulations for getting a gun and what is approved in a neighborhood on 1 acre lots? Ive been told there are hundreds in the area because of Fullerton Woods which is very close to us. I refuse to be afraid to be in my own yard! Any help is appreciated!
Thanks! |
Thank you!
|
Call a professional................You are NOT allowed to shoot them in your backyard !
They will end up trapping them. |
Lisa---Contact your Oak Brook officials and see what legal alternatives you have. More than likely they'll tell you to either put up whatever fence is legal in your area and/or call a Professional as the other members suggested.
|
They may even have a list of trappers for you to call.
Boy that 5 acres sure to be over hunted it looks like :bash: :D Al |
