Well tonight the great nephew was over. Took him with me to Cabelas where he ask me to suggest & buy a predator call & show him how to use it.......so I bought one.
Mad game call mid range with the soft barrel that looked good to me.
Of course when we got home he asked me to show him how it worked.
Keep in mind I've not been out calling in several years, though I was into it in the past.
I told him we wouldn't have enough time to do it right but we'd go out and do a "practice set up". Took him to a area along a fence line where he'd been shooting off and on all day. So I KNEW we'd not see anything........so didn't take a gun myself. LOL!
I parked Randy in a good spot, then moved off to his left & upwind about 60-70 yards & started to call.
Within 6-8 minutes of starting to call I had 3 critters coming in. One small young fox & 2 doe deer. Randy had my 22 mag.....but was so focused on the 2 does he didn't see the fox (now within about 90 yds of me, but 140 or so from him). Things ended when the older doe winded me at abut 20 yds, let out a loud snort and both does bolted & then spooked the fox as they ran by it.
While not a shot was fired Randy was very excited about seeing the does come in for me like that and of course wished he'd got a shot at that fox.
Was proud that he did not shoot when the fox spooked but was so near the does he'd have had a chance at hitting one of them with every thing running close like that. Kind of wished I'd taken a rifle, but not much, more fun watching his reactions to it all.
It was a great evening guys, one of the best I've had in months.
