Default .17 hornady rimfire!!!!!!!!!

Anyone else heard of the new for '02 .17 Hornady rimfires???? .17 cal with 17 grains if I remember right, polymer tipped. Marlin chambered it and claims to consistently get 10 shot groups under an inch at 100yrds!!!!!!!!! Talk about the new varmint gun!!!!!! Find one in semiauto and pop rabbits from 250 yrds, they wouldn't even know where they were getting shot from.

GOTTA LOVE THAT MARLIN MAGIC!!!!

i would agree,i don't have any specs on this but it would seem it will be a like the 22 but with a smaller bullet.i mean how hot can a rim fire be.

the bullet velocity is 2500 fps. I think this one will dissapear quicker then the REm. 5MM rimfire did. That whisp of a bullet won't hold speed worth a hoot, and I'll bet the wind drift will be something.

I have heard that it is a .22 magnum case necked down to .17. It could be wicked, but it probably won't match centerfire performance. You also will not be able to reload it. Just my two cents.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to bring this back up, but has anything new come up about this in the last 2 weeks? Maybe a ballistics chart or something?
The reason I ask is that I'm interested in hunting fox and coyote, but I don't want to really wreck the hide. I also don't want to spend $600+ for a BDL .17 Rem. Is this, in your opinion, going to be something to hunt coyotes in the 50-150 yard range and still kill effectively? Would the regular .22 mag be better?
It was presented to me at a local sport shop as an alternative to the handi-rifle that I posted about yesterday.

I would love to find out more info about this. Here In MI we cant hunt with anything other then rimfire below Baycity. I live below Baycity so If it is a good round for Predator hunting like the .17 rem I would be all for it.

the 17 hornady will be nothing like the 17 rem.you can't compare the two, ones a centerfire the other a rimfire,no compareison.the 22 mag in my opinon isn't enough for coyote, there for the 17 hornady will be less effective.this isn't to say that the 22 mag or the 17 hornady won't or can't kill a coyote couse they will but if one wants to get serious about huntin coyotes a larger round should be used.
